How is ETF overlap calculated?

For each security held by both ETFs we take the smaller of the two portfolio weights; the sum of those minima is the overlap percentage. Figures come from each fund’s own published holdings.

How we compute it

Overlap % is the sum, over every security held by both funds, of the smaller of the two weights:

overlap = Σ  min( weight in A,  weight in B )

We use each ETF's own holdings disclosure and consider equity positions only. The two coverage figures answer a different question — “how much of one fund already lives inside the other” — which is why they're rarely equal. Every fund shows an “as of” date.
